General home-school communication

Please feel free to communicate any matters through class dojo. You can of course also ring the school to discuss matters or provide information but please ring outside of lesson times if you wish to speak directly to class staff.  We can also arrange individual meetings if they are required.

The school also uses our website, letters, newsletters. St Giles Spencer Academy Facebook page, Class Dojo and text messaging to communicate with parents and to send out reminders about events (NB it is not possible to reply back to the text messaging service). Please make sure the school has your up to date mobile number to ensure you receive these text messages.

We also have regular parent’s evenings each year where you will be invited into school to discuss your child’s progress with their teacher.

Class Dojo

When joining St Giles Spencer Academy, your child will be issued with a Class Dojo account.  The function of Class Dojo is to communicate general messages between school staff and parents/carers.  You should expect to receive home-school communication from your child's class team approximately three times per week.  This will provide a fine balance between staff workload and their well-being whilst ensuring you are kept regularly up-to-date on your child's experience in school.  We must however politely remind parents/carers that staff will not be expected to read and/or respond to any Class Dojo messages in the evenings, at weekends or during the school holidays.  Class Dojo will be checked daily during term time so please do use this to communicate with class staff.

SEND- Plan, Do and Review Meetings.

SEND Plan, Do, Review meetings are held once every term between parents/carers and Class Staff.  This is an opportunity for parents/carers to see what their child has been achieving, talk about any general achievements or concerns, discuss attendance and to set new targets for each child based around skills, PSHE, communication or academic progress.

Annual reviews

Once a year parents/carers will be invited into school to attend an Annual Review meeting. An Annual Review is a review of a child’s EHC Plan. The plan must be reviewed at least once every 12 months to check the child’s progress and the plan's continuing relevance. Relevant professionals are also invited but they may often submit a report.
