Meerkats class is a class of 11 boys. All children in Meerkats Class communicate in a different way and we use resources specific to every child and these are accessible in the provision. The children in Meerkats class use the Total Communication approach to get their wants and needs met, which means gesture, Makaton, symbols and verbal communication are all ways that the children in the class will use. Communication needs in Meerkats class range from verbal communication to using communication boards, Now & Next timetables and sealed pots.
The children in Meerkats class are all working to develop their independence. The children follow a structured daily routine and timetable for teaching and learning. Meerkats class have regular access to the Sensory Room, Dark Room, immersion room and Soft Play throughout the week. This develops their social, emotional, sensory and physical needs. The class attend a sensory assembly each week with classes from the same phase.
All of our learning is fun and creative with sensory elements and we love being outdoors! We are looking forward to seeing what the new school year brings!
Outdoor learning:We will have PE on a Tuesday afternoon. This half term we will be working on ball skills- throwing, catching and striking. Please send a PE kit into school. We will keep this for the half term to ensure children have it each week.
School will have a continued focus on ‘Outside Learning in all Weathers’ this year, with this in mind if possible please ensure that on each day your child has a suitable coat for the weather conditions.
We ask for a contribution of £6 per half term which contributes to regular class cooking sessions and daily snack. We are aiming to enrich the curriculum through a variety of trips and will give you notice of these in advance.
