Class Story

Class Overview
Welcome to Rapunzel class, taught by Lorena Stevenson (teacher), , Nikki Leedham (teaching assistant), Grant Gillespi and Ashleigh Wills. The children in Rapunzel class primarily follow the Discovery pathway. We are a total communication classroom, using Makaton, objects of reference and symbols to ensure all our children have a voice, promoting their independence.
Each half term, our learning focuses on The Big Question, which is explored through multi-sensory and engaging learning experiences. Exciting sensory stories help to develop our love of reading, we love to get messy! Children’s wellbeing and regulation is embedded in our practise and children are taught a variety of ways to self- regulate and co-regulate. To facilitate this, we follow our structured daily routines and timetables, and support transitions with child specific objects of reference, music cues and symbols/ pictures. This is further supported through access to therapies, Intensive Interaction and Attention Autism. In preparation for learning we access sensory circuits. We love to be active and complement our learning with Squiggle whilst you Wiggle, Dough Disco, and sensory play. We also spend time outdoors as well in our school community shared spaces such as soft play, the dark room and the sensory room, building friendships both in our class and across the school. We look forward to accessing the community regularly. We love learning through exploration in Rapunzel class.
